During 1999 – 2000, Miss Naseema Hurzuk President, Helpers of the Handicapped, Kolhapur wrote a column ‘Chakachi Khurchi’ (The Wheel Chair) in Sunday edition of ‘Sakal’ newspaper. The column though autobiographical in nature, also highlighted her struggle for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. Due to popular demand, this column was compiled in a book form and on 30 September 2001 the book was formally released at the hands of noted social worker Dr. Anil Awchat who also presided over the book release ceremony. Shri Anant Dixit, Editor, Sakal Pune Edition and publisher Shri Anil Mehta also graced the occasion.
Mrs. Asha Deodhar has translated the book in English language and it has been published by The Viveka Foundation of New Delhi under the title “Naseema – The Incredible Story”.
Shri Kishore Gaud has translated the book in Gujarati language and it has been published by Gangaba Prakashan of Ahmedabad. The book was released in Ahmedabad on 12 March 2006 by noted religious scholar Shri Morari Bapu.
The book has been translated in Telugu language by Mrs. Radha Murthy and has been published by Hyderbad Book Trust.
Chakachi Khurchi has been translated in Hindi language by Dr. Girish Kashid and published by Rajkamal Prakashan, New Delhi.
Chakachi Khurchi has been translated in Kannada language by Mrs. Lalita Bartakke and published by Marathi Vangamay Premi Mandal, Gadag, Karnataka. National Association for the Blind, Mumbai have converted this book into a “Talking Book” format for the benefit of the blind and the illiterate. The book is recorded in nine (9) audio cassettes. Portions of the book are being aired on various stations of Akashwani radio.
Chakachi Khurchi has been translated in Urdu language by Dr. Anees Rasheed Khan of Amravati and published by Pharos Media & Publication, New Delhi under the title ‘Sitaron Se Aage’.
The Education Department of Government of Maharashtra has included a chapter from ‘Chakachi Khurchi’ in the Marathi language text book of Class Xth for three academic years 2007, 2008, and 2009.
Miss Naseema Hurzuk presented a copy of ‘Naseema – The Incredible Story’ to H.E. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in his office at Rashtrapati Bhavan. It came as a very pleasant surprise when Dr. Abdul Kalam said he had already read the book and commented on certain incidents mentioned in the book.
DOCUMENTRY FILM ON ‘HELPERS’
Maharashtra Seva Samiti organization and Wild Rose Foundation have sponsored a documentary film of about 30 minutes on the activities of ‘Helpers’. The documentary was filmed by Shri Devendra Kotwal and Smt. Madhavi Kotwal of Pune. The original documentary titled ‘Gaganala Pankh Nave’ in Marathi was also dubbed in English language under the title ‘When Aspirations Transcend the Sky’ and in Hindi language under the title ‘Armanon Ke Pankh Naye’. Copies of the documentary film are available at a donation price of Rs. 100/- per copy.We are grateful to Dr. Jagannath Wani who was instrumental in getting this sponsorship of documentary film.
